Do you know what the current SAG/AFTRA Theatrical Day Rate is if you were to book a day player role of feature or episodic television show?
Scale is $956.00. SAG/AFTRA works on a fiscal calendar, so the rate will go up to $980.00 for scale pay as of July 1, 2018. This rate is for union work. The weekly rate is $3320.00. It will go up to $3403.00 as of July 1, 2018.
This day rate does not include the 10 percent commission for an agent. It is important to know that in the world of TV/Film, the agent’s commission is provided by the production itself. That 10 percent commission does not come out of your rate. It is negotiated by the agent on top of your scale pay. If your agent calls to book you on a project, they will generally quote you at $956.00 + 10 percent ($1051.60) as they have already confirmed their commission in the closing of your deal.
You certainly do not need to memorize these numbers, but it is a good idea to have them jotted down somewhere or at the least accessible to you whether you are a union member or not. If you work on a union project, you will be paid at this rate.
These numbers are for the full scale rate. Keep in mind that modified, low, ultra low and new media projects all have separate rates. Additionally, non-union work, commercials, industrials and modeling operate differently as far as rate and commission are concerned as well. So be sure to be in the know.
